Rockway drama group: "To Kill a Mockingbird"

If you want to attend "a very different kind of school" come to Rockway.

High School in Canada is an experience you will never forget.  It is also a solid investment in your future.  Rockway is a school that cares.

Only 10% of Rockway's community is made up of students who come to Canada from abroad. These students come to improve their English skills. They return enriched by an experience they will never forget. Rockway supports international students with an International Students' Club, special international Teacher Advisors, Host Family arrangements, special English classes and tutors.

International students should contact Dr. Herminio Schmidt for more details and information about applying for Student Visas.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Rockway Mennonite Collegiate is a co-educational school for students in grades 7 through 12/OAC. It is located 100 km west of Toronto. This high school has approximately 450 students. The school accepts students regardless of race, creed, colour or social status. The program of studies, recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education, is based on curriculum guidelines provided by this Ministry. Upon successful completion of the program of studies, the student receives the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) issued by the Ontario Ministry of Education and can apply for university studies. Since most graduates go on to university, Rockway limits international student enrolment to ensure good academic preparation for all students within a Canadian cultural context.

LANGUAGE:

1. For almost 40 years, Rockway has invited a small number of highly motivated students from around the world. They come to improve their English, graduate from a very well recognized Canadian high school and prepare themselves for studying in universities or other instututions.

2. Tutors are available to help international students with their course work and language skills if necessary. These fees are charged in addition to tuition (approximately $ 30.00 Canadian per hour).

ACCOMMODATION:

1. Rockway arranges housing with Canadian families instead of providing residential facilities on campus. We have learned from past experience that students adjust to life in Canada much more quickly, and that their English improves much more rapidly if they live with a Canadian Host Family.

2. We recommend that new students arrive in Canada no later than August 27th, so that living arrangements and study plans can be finalized well in advance of school opening.

In addition, books (approximately $500-700) and student council and international student activity fees ($170) are extra and will be billed during the school year. The fees are used to cover expenses for the international Student Retreat, monthly trips, yearbooks and other student activities.

When the tuition fees are received, the school will forward an official letter of acceptance which you need to apply for a Student Visa. You must have a valid student visa and passport in order to attend a Canadian school.

Applicants who are accepted will have to submit tuition paymen after they receive an invoice from the school. This will reserve a place for the student in the academic program and the official acceptance letter will then be sent. (After the end of March application are only accepted provided space is still available).

Tuition fees are non-refundable unless a student is unable to obtain a student visa or if a student decides to withdraw his application before April 30. Requests for refund after April 30, must be accompanied by a letter from the Canadian Embassy stating that the visa application has been refused. In either case, all except a $250 administrative fee will be refunded.

If a student discontinues classes during the year or is asked to withdraw from the school because of behaviour deemed unacceptable by the school or host family, or because of irregular attendance, or inattention to studies, NO REFUND will be granted.

Room and Board charge and Health Insurance fees need to be forwarded with the tuition payment in order to receive a letter of acceptance.
